It was very nice to visit a place with no sign of the recent hurricanes. Lots of other folks thought so too and were out there enjoying the day.
Tourism is a huge part of the economy in Florida and especially in the Keys. One way you can help them is by visiting. Just make sure they’re ready before you go, and they’ll be very glad to see you.
On the other hand, Lake Apopka’s been a wonderful place to visit this summer. … Restoration efforts and the opening of the wildlife drive about two years ago have made it a premier nature and wildlife destination in Central Florida.
This means that if you can normally shoot at 1/100 second handheld without inducing camera shake blur, then with IS, you may be able to shoot at 1/3 to 1/2 seconds. Truly a huge advantage, as long as subject motion blur is not a problem.
It was exciting to spot a Bobcat. It was stalking slowly through the grass, but I only manage a single (poor) frame before it disappeared. I wish it had lingered for a few minutes so I could get a better shot.
Why do I enjoy going over there so much? Even after so many visits, it’s impossible to see everything it has to offer. I enjoy getting to know a place and watching it change over time. I enjoy seeing the same locations in different light or weather, with different birds around.
We don’t have mountains here in Central Florida. And we don’t have very good waterfalls either. But our clouds are as good or better than anywhere else.
I’ve been using an Olympus E-M5 Mark II for several months and I’ve mentioned it once before (in this post about algorithmic and computational photography). I very much like the camera and the photos I’ve made with it.
Today I’d like to talk more about its high resolution mode capabilities and some things I’ve learned so far while working with it.
