Ian update

Hurricane Ian was a slow moving, high wind storm when it came ashore last Wednesday. The news and photos from the Fort Meyers area are horrific. By the time it passed through Winter Springs Wednesday and Thursday it had weakened, but we still had ~40 MPH sustained winds and gusts much stronger than that.

There are tree limbs and some whole trees down in our neighborhood, and we have what looks like minor damage to one place on our roof. We lost power, water, and internet on Thursday but power and internet came back after a little over 24 hours. Water pressure is back too, but we’re under a boil water notice due to water main breaks.

Winter Springs recorded more than 15 inched of rain and there’s widespread flooding in the Orlando area. Fortunately, our home is up on a slight ridge, so the flooding is not too close. We do have a couple of the major roads through our neighborhood blocked due to flood damage. The city has said some areas will need to be rebuilt so it may take a while to reopen them.

Lynn and I have ben very lucky. I hope all of you are doing well. And if you’ve been impacted by this storm I hope your recovery efforts are well underway. Stay positive, be kind, and take care of yourselves and each other.

  1. Thank you for the update. Glad you and yours were safe during the storm. What a horrible storm… heartbreaking … a lot of clean up snow.. God help you all!

  2. Hi Ed … we live in Lakeport FL and the storm hit us too. We had high winds up to 110 MPH. Everyone around us in Glades County lost electric briefly, except our street. We are so fortunate to not have any damage. We lost our roof with Irma. We have electric and water and are so thankful we do live in south central
FL. Glad you are ok. Stay Safe.

  3. Your experience almost mirrors ours here in Lakeland, Ed. The storm moved ever so slightly east as it passed our way. Very lucky, indeed!

Finished cutting bigger limbs and picking up the small stuff yesterday. Will need a roof inspection as branches thudded onto it all night long. We never lost power and are in good shape.

Prayers ongoing for those not nearly so fortunate.

    See you out there.

    1. Hi Wally,

This storm could have been much worse – and was much worse elsewhere – we’re grateful. It sounds like it will be a while before things get back close to normal.

Glad you are safe – take care!

  4. It is so sad to see all the damage to our beautiful state. I’m glad you didn’t get anything worse and it’s been dry lately so I hope that helps those with the clean up. Enjoy your weekend!

    1. It is sad – the damage in some area is horrible.

We were very lucky and already have our roof damage repaired – it wasn’t very bad.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend too.

      Ed
