I’ve kept an eye on the Mute Swan family in Viera and when I went by this week, the eggs had finally hatched.
Viera Mute Swan pair and cygnets – On Wednesday, 4/16/14
I think I could count 7 babies. They’re quite far from the nest in this photo and Mom is keeping them well away from the road.
Here’s another photo from a week earlier. Papa was patrolling and looks like he’s about to fall asleep.
Sleepy Swan – On Thursday 4/10/16
If you’d wanted to stop and see them, it’ll be harder to find them now. They’ll be foraging and may not be anywhere near the nest.
I’m happy that they’re doing well so far.
Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog. Now – go make some photos!

aren’t they sweet. Glad you got to see them….Great images by the way…
Thanks for the update. I haven’t visited them since the babies hatched. I hope to visit down there next week sometime.
That’s a really beautiful, classic shot of the cob and his reflection. And how splendid we get to see the cygnets – not easy to get a vantage point, I’m sure. Definitely a smile-inducing blog!
Love the sleepy swan shot and thanks for letting us know about the cygnets!
Dorothy, Jim, Rhona, and Jeff: Thanks for your comments!
I enjoyed following along with the swans.

Ed, I found your blog via Google. I just recently moved to Clermont, FL from New Jersey. I was just wondering if you recommend any areas in my neck of the woods. I look forward to exploring! Hope to hear from you soon.
Hi Rudy,
Welcome to Florida – it’s a great place to be a photographer!
Your question is a little hard to answer without knowing what you’re interesting in photographing. And I don’t know the Clermont area very well (I need to get out there and explore!).
Take a look at Lake Louisa State Park – I’ve heard good things about it and it’s on my list to visit. I have been to Emeralda Marsh and it’s not too far north of you. Further away, Paynes Prairie, Circle B Bar, and Fort Desoto are world class birding and nature destinations. For more info, take a look at the table of contents in this blog. I have posts about all except Lake Louisa.

Ed,
I like to shoot a little bit of everything! I may have to head to lake louisa state park and see what they have out there. If you ever do swing by clermont let me know!
Hey Rudy,
I’ve been exploring Lake Louisa and I’m going to try to get a blog post on it done for this weekend. In the mean time, you can see some photos at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/edrosack/sets/72157644335735632/
